I've booked 24 flights and hotels with Hopper across Asia. Here's how price predictions, Price Freeze and Carrot Cash work, plus my promo code.

Yes, Hopper is legit, and it's the app I use most when I travel. I've booked 24 times with it, mostly hotels in Asia like Bangkok, Kyoto, Osaka, Narita and Ho Chi Minh City. My booking history is on my homepage. Here's what I like, what to watch out for, and how to save.

What is Hopper?

Hopper is a travel app for flights, hotels and car rentals. Its main feature is price prediction: it looks at fare history and tells you whether to book now or wait.

Features that actually save money

Price prediction: a "Buy now" or "Wait" tip based on past prices. It's a guide, not a guarantee.
Price Freeze: pay a small fee to lock a price for a few days while you decide.
Carrot Cash: credit you earn on some bookings and promotions, used on future trips.
Hotel deals: in Asia I often found better hotel prices on Hopper than on other apps, so compare before you book.

Saving on travel is good stewardship too. Every dollar saved is one more you can give, save or enjoy with the people you love.

What to watch out for

Add-ons like "Cancel for any reason" cost extra and don't refund 100%. Read the terms first.
Support is mainly in-app chat, which can be slow in busy periods.
Hotel bookings through Hopper usually don't earn hotel loyalty points.

Pros

Price predictions help you time bookings
Good hotel deals, especially in Asia
Carrot Cash rewards repeat users
Flights, hotels and cars in one app

Cons

Paid add-ons don't cover everything
Mostly in-app chat support
Usually no hotel loyalty points
The website is more limited than the app

Is Hopper worth it?

For me, yes. If you travel often and like to compare prices before you book, Hopper is worth having on your phone. Just skip the add-ons you don't need.
